So, Irene came and Irene left. Good riddance. Irene, you are not welcome in OC anymore.

All that said, Ocean City fared extremely well. No major damage and Ocean City is back and open for business.

A mandatory evacuation was issued, but I stayed with my boy Willie. I figure if these knucklehead weather people can come into OC, then I can handle staying.

Ocean City Maryland is the center of the universe on June 3-6, 2010 as the Ocean City Air Show flies into town for the 3rd annual event.

One of the flagship events in Ocean City every year, be sure to get to OC and catch your share of adrenaline.

As we celebrate this Memorial Day, not with how many beers we can drink and burgers we can jam down our throats, but by honoring those who died to let us do what we do (one above all), let's keep the feel-good going and gather together next weekend in OC to cheer on some of the best our military has to offer.

And let's invite Iran and North Korea to the party so they can get a real nice up close look at the Air Force's newest toy, the F-22 Raptor, not to mention the F-18's and F-16's on-hand. On the way home, maybe they should stop by Afghanistan and get a nice demonstration of the US Drone technology, but I better get back on topic before I put both feet on the stump.

Joining the Raptor will be the world famous Thunderbirds, the USN F-18 Hornet, F-16 Flyby, C-5 Galaxy, US Coast Guard, US Navy Seals Leap Frogs, US Army 101st Airborne and other military flybys.

Many civilian participants will also perform including the Geico Skytypers, the Firebirds, Jack Knutson, Rob Holland, Team MS760 and more.

Snow Redux

Ocean City's plow is getting a real workout these last two weeks. About 12" of the white stuff last weekend and another 6 or so inches this go round.

What a panic a little snowflake can cause. I kinda like it. I walked into WaWa today and there wasn't a person in there. Spooky.

I guess we can blame the blizzard and foot and a half of snow over the last two weeks on global warming, right?

I say the only poisonous gas is the hot air coming out of our politicians' mouths.

Afterall, politicians and weathermen... the only two professions where you can suck and still keep your job. We just expect them to be wrong anyway.

I say we declare a snowball fight on all of them and make 'em eat snow.

Merry Christmas from Ocean City Maryland

Warning - Jesus will be mentioned at least 3 times in this blog! Can you dig it?

Now, let's all say it out loud... "Merry Christmas" - isn't that liberating? Two simple words causing pain, suffering, arguments, new ordinances and changed laws all over the country.

There shouldn't be a nativity scene in Washington DC this year, but you know that old joke about needing wise men.

All the political correctness in this world makes me want to be, well, incorrect. My wife says that is no problem for me, since I am never right about anything anyway, but I digress.

Today's Morning Rise got the juices flowing to say the least.

Actually, I am not a Christmas guy. I think the holiday is greed, vanity and excess in its full glory. Even the giving part, more times than not, has vanity and pride written all over it. I mean, for me, giving a meal to someone I don't know but needs it feels much better than giving a gift card to someone I do know that ends up in his junk drawer.

And, explain this one to me, a good buddy of mine (yeah, I have a couple friends) is an atheist. I don't care about that; he's his own man. But he loves Christmas. Cracks me up.

One more thing, I read the Bible, say my prayers and am all about Jesus and all, but, let's face it, Jesus was not born on December 25th anyway. Knock, knock -- there are no sheep in the desert in the winter - that's the first clue.

Regardless, we should probably celebrate Jesus everyday, since, you know, he's kinda important to the big picture.

And, "Jesus" has been a five letter word in a four letter body lately. I attended the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast yesterday and it was refreshing to here the name Jesus mentioned and prayers in Jesus' name. And the turnout was fantastic on a bitterly cold morning. People still get it and that felt good.

I know religion is taboo and 4 of the 5 people that read this blog will never be back, but maybe my wife is right and I'm "incorrect." Really, I don't care.

I'm just a proud Christian in Ocean City, Maryland - not ashamed to love God and happy to wish you all a Merry Christmas as you make someone smile.

Skyrockets in Flight...

Afternoon delight is whatever you want it to be in OC, so get away from it all and head to OC this 4th of July weekend.

Mother Nature has blessed us with perfect weather. Sunny and 80's all weekend. And, you know by now to never listen to your local weathermen when they talk about OC. It is always partly cloudy at the beach according to them. They're just trying to keep you at home, so don't be a knucklehead.

You're smarter than that, though. The sun is shining and it is hot in here, so let's take off all our clothes while we sip on some gin and juice because it's summer, summer, summer-time -- time to sit back and unwind. Ok, way off line here as I mix some old school rap tracks.

Let me tell you something else... the ocean is unbelievably comfortable this year. There have been years when the water is cold in late June and July. The gulfstream has delivered up some incredible sea temps which is perfect for some bodysurfing and splashing around.

The warm temps have been great for fishing as well. A 25 year state record for largest mako was shattered a couple weeks ago. Shark bites... mmm.

So come on down and play around. Kites are flying, American flags are waving, grills are fired up, libations are frosty and the beach is picture perfect.

Fireworks will be lighting the skies Saturday night which means my dog will be freaking out. Then the bottle rockets and firecrackers keep him spooked all night long. It's cool, though, because "Life's a Beach."

A Child's Eyes...

So, I'm a new dad and that's my boy exploring the beach and ocean. He's more comfortable with sand than grass at this point so I don't think his football career is off to a good start.

Moments after the picture was taken, he got whacked by his first wave. I think it's pretty funny; mom runs over and puts him back in his bubble. No worries, after a few seconds of blistering crying he charges the water and takes it on... screeches of fear turn to screams of excitement.

All that got me thinking about the phrase "seeing things through a child's eyes."

Man, how cool would that be? We can try to do it but we've been poisoned; the damage is done and it's impossible to undo it. Maybe the only thing we can do is to sit back and watch a child go at it; watch them do their thing with no care about what others think, or what it means or what the ramifications are or if it is politically correct. No worries of breaking rules, or talking too loud, or farting in public, or stepping on toes. No concerns about the knuckleheads around you.

So, if you have children, bring them to Ocean City and watch them live. Watch them enjoy life like we're supposed to. And, whether you have kids or not, OC is the perfect place to let loose and find our own inner-child again. Ride a wave, build a sandcastle, walk the boardwalk and eat some ice cream, caramel popcorn, french fries and funnel cakes for dinner (without worrying about calories). Play some mini golf, go down a waterslide, raise your hands on a roller coaster, ride a go-kart or just lay back and soak it all in.

Let yourself go... to Ocean City, Maryland.

Another wonderful morning on the beach. There are no words for the peaceful feeling of being on the beach, all alone, watching the day begin. Energizing, invigorating and all the cliche words apply. The possibilities of the day, the truth in what matters, the folly of the human mind, the craziness of it all... it all leads to discovery of what's in your core.

All of it inspired just by nature doing its thing - what it's done every day for thousands of years.

The morning brings peace by nature. And then we wake up and create chaos.

When you come to the beach, try a sunrise. Wake up, forget about everything and just take it all in. Watch the morning rise and let your mind go. Fall back to sleep with the sound of the ocean and the cool breeze of the salt air. Cleanse the soul. Cocktails, miniature golf, Boardwalk, and sun worship are for later. Looks like summer officially started this Memorial Day weekeend, just like it always used to. It's been a while since we've seen this kind of vibe and energy in Ocean City on a Memorial Day weekend.

After the long cold winter that was full of bad news, it's time to shake it off and live a little.

Summer's here and don't delay -- Rooooad Triiip. Round 'em up and let's go. The winter may have been long, but one thing's for sure... the summer will fly by. Spend as much time on the beach as you can. Why not? We're close to home, and you know we are damn close to perfect.

Now, on to this blog. New format - something much easier for this knucklehead to manage. I live about a half mile from the sandy shoreline. My wife made me watch the movie "Marley and Me" this past weekend and I will never be the same again. First time I cried in a movie since Old Yeller.

So, I will run my dog, Willie, to the beach everyday and take a picture of the sunrise. I will throw my dog the ball (yes raquetballs do bounce on the sand) and just reflect on things. I will then run back to my house and post the pic and my thought of the day. I will even introduce you to Willie, the crazy hound. No pooping on the dog beach.

Oh, and I think I will call out sick on rainy days.

Let's see if I can handle this idea. Sunrises at 5:50 suck and my legs don't want to move very fast then but at least they move, right? Thank God for that.

You know, life is hard. Especially these days.

The media preaches nothing but bad news, the government (both parties) seem to dig our hole deeper.

We, the people, are on the front lines. We are living this everyday, while government prints trillions of dollars and mega companies get bailed out. Make no mistake, the government and big business are in it together. Both take our money, go on retreats and pay themselves more.

Meanwhile, we hit the streets everyday, doing what is right. Working hard to take care of our families.

This is not meant to be a political post. Personally, I belong to a new party called "The Common Sense Party." I think both of our mainstream parties fall in the "knucklehead" category so don't mistake this post for taking sides.

My point here is simple. Life stinks sometimes and even when it's good, we keep getting beat over the head with "no, no, no."

Well, I say "yes, yes, yes." Live. Laugh. Love. Enjoy.

Don't forget to escape. Don't be afraid to live. Don't let the media and goverment terrorize our minds and keep us paralyzed.

Work hard. Play hard. Live hard.

Get away and enjoy your family and/or friends. Even if it's just a weekend or a night - just escape.
